JAMB Subject Combination for Chemistry

If you are considering studying Chemistry or Industrial Chemistry in a Nigerian university, one of the first things you need to understand is the JAMB subject combination for Chemistry. The JAMB subject combination refers to the set of subjects that the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) requires candidates to have in their UTME in order to be eligible for admission into a particular course. Choosing the right subject combination is very important because candidates who do not meet the required combination will not be considered for admission, no matter their UTME score.

This article will help you understand everything you need to know about studying Chemistry in Nigeria, including the minimum JAMB cut-off mark, the required O’Level credits, and the list of universities offering the course.

JAMB Subject Combination for Chemistry

To study Chemistry or Industrial Chemistry in a Nigerian university, it is important to use the correct JAMB subject combination when registering for UTME. Using the wrong subjects can disqualify your application, no matter how high your score is.

For Chemistry, candidates are required to take:

  • English Language (compulsory for all candidates)
  • Chemistry (compulsory)
  • Any two (2) of Physics, Biology, or Mathematics

This combination ensures that you have the necessary background knowledge to handle university-level Chemistry courses. Make sure you carefully select these subjects when registering for UTME, and double-check your registration slip to avoid mistakes.

O’Level Requirements for Chemistry

Before applying to study Chemistry or Industrial Chemistry in any Nigerian university, candidates must meet the O’Level (WAEC, NECO, or NABTEB) requirements.

To be eligible, you must have five (5) credit passes in the following subjects:-

  • English Language
  • Mathematics
  • Chemistry
  • Physics
  • Biology

These credits must be obtained in not more than two sittings. Candidates with National Diploma (ND) or National Certificate in Education (NCE) may also apply through Direct Entry, provided they have good grades in relevant O’Level subjects.
